Ladies, breast cancer is the most frightening type of disease, especially for women. This fear is indeed reasonable, because, in 2019, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia recorded the percentage of breast cancer occurrence in Indonesian women of 42.1 people per 100,000 population, with an average depth of 17 people per 100,000 population.

To reduce this amount, proper handling is needed. One of them is by early detection and by educating the types of breast cancer in women. This information is very important, considering the many types of breast cancer in the world. Thus, when you already know the type of breast cancer that is owned, the treatment will be more targeted.

Launch Healthline, there are several types of breast cancer and they are divided into two main categories; namely noninvasive breast cancer (non-malignant cancer) and invasive breast cancer (malignant cancer).

Noninvasive breast cancer

Noninvasive breast cancer occurs when the cancer cells remain in their original location, and the cancer cells do not rupture and spread to the surrounding tissue. Two types of breast cancer fall into this category:

1. carcinoma ductal in situ ( DCIS )

Ductal carcinoma in situ or ductal carcinoma in situ ( DCIS ) is the most common type of noninvasive breast cancer. Ductal carcinoma in situ itself refers to cancer cells that have formed in the breast ducts, and have not spread to the surrounding breast tissue.

Because it has not spread to other tissues, this type of cancer can be treated and not life-threatening. Even so, you must continue to take proper treatment, because if it is too late it can develop into invasive breast cancer.

2. carcinoma lobular in situ ( LCIS )

Carcinoma lobular in situ or lobular carcinoma in situ ( LCIS ) is often known as neoplasia lobular. This carcinoma cell actually does not include cancer but looks like cancer cells that grow in the lobules of the breast (tissue that produces milk).

Nevertheless, LCIS can increase the risk of developing breast cancer. In fact, according to research, women who suffer from LCIS have about 7 to 12 times higher risk of developing malignant cancer in both breasts.

For this reason, women diagnosed with LCIS need to routinely screen for breast cancer and receive further action from their doctor.

Invasive breast cancer

Invasive breast cancer occurs when cancer cells have spread and invaded the surrounding tissue. Two types of breast cancer fall into this category:

1. Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC)

Carcinoma ductal invasive or invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is a type of breast cancer is the most common. This type of breast cancer starts from the breast milk channel which then attacks the closest tissue in the breast.

After breast cancer has spread to tissues outside the breast milk channel, it can spread to other nearby organs and tissues.

2. carcinoma lobular invasive

Invasive lobular carcinoma is the second most common type of breast cancer after invasive ductal carcinoma. This cancer starts in the breast lobules (milk production tissue) and attacks other breast tissue around it.

This type of breast cancer is usually often experienced by women aged 55 years and over. Not only that, but this type of breast cancer is also usually more difficult to detect through physical examination or mammography (examination of human breasts using X-rays) compared to invasive ductal carcinoma.
